Say Goodbye to Stains in Granite

More than just a big slab of rock on the side of a mountain, granite is known as the most durable material you can have for your kitchen countertop. Not only does it give the kitchen a deluxe look, it can also literally take the heat of the kitchen, being an igneous rock. When treated with a sealer for granite countertops, it can be protected from spills that can discolor and ruin the appearance of the granite countertop. It is so hard that manufacturers need special tools to cut the hard rock into custom specifications.

It may not look like it to the naked eye, but granite has pores just like any other rock on Earth. If any liquid manages to seep into those pores, it can leave a long-lasting mark on the countertop for ages. A sealer is thus applied to the material, like a protective layer of paint, keeping any liquid from seeping into the porous slab of rock. Since kitchens are no strangers to liquid ingredients and dishes, it makes sealers a big must.

Commercial sealers for granite countertops usually contain either silica or fluoropolymer in the solution. Instead of oil and water, these compounds seep into the pores of granite even in those hard-to-reach areas. The compounds expand to fill the pores and settle as if paving holes in the road. With the right sealer treatment, no liquid will ever get to seep into granite for years.

Try pouring any liquid on a cured granite countertop, the liquid will only form a puddle on the surface and, if inclined, slide down. A sealer for granite countertops is known to last for a lifetime and can be cleaned with any household cleaner. Applying the agent on the countertop is as simple as spraying and polishing windows; just the sealing agent and some clean rags will do.

Aside from protection, sealers for granite countertops enhance granite’s luster, adding beauty to the material. Making the countertop shine can also add up to a home’s resale value, as granite is very expensive. Although rock-based countertops are already treated with resins for luster, a sealer for granite countertops can improve that luster to great effect.

Dirt and kitchen stains are no longer a problem for treated granite countertops, making them easy to clean with just a swipe of the rag. A sealer for granite countertops cleans any dirt or stain in the surface during the process of sealing, ensuring that the countertop will not be dirty when it is sealed. This slab of rock in the kitchen may live up to its description of being hard, but making it protected from kitchen mess with sealers is plain easy.
